I've been in this situation recently. I was just like, "No, I'm not interested." And when he asked why I said, "Because I'm not even a little bit attracted to him." It worked out just fine.
i keep getting hounded about not having an interst in my one friend's wife's friend. they sort of hounded me forever, then when i said ultimately, "i'm just not interested", i've never heard the end of it.
"not my type"
confess your undying love for the friend.
with the phrase, "dude? what the fuck?"
@jesse Yeah I thought about that, but then I was worried she would ask me what my type is...
@em Considering she's engaged to one of my best friends, that would be might awkward (also untrue).
ask if she has any other friends.
@HR note I said "polite" ;
@where hrm...that's a possibility
"I'm sorry, but I'm not interested."
@other Jesse: then you have to say "you know, like not ugly." then wait for the high-five!
ok for serious, I think it's ok to say "not attracted to that person" it's like your fault, not theirs.
sorta.
it's cool, they could be saying the same thing about you!
@Jesse see I'm thinking that high-five might be face high if I say that
"ummmmmm thanks i'm sure they are nice but they don't arouse my ladyboner"
"Your friend seems very nice."
THEN, shoot yourself in the neck.

Yeah I suppose maybe the straightforward way is the best way to go

"you can have her"
This IS a problem. I wish I knew the answer.
Just be straight forward. You work yourself into far fewer corners and dig yourself far fewer graves that way.
Remember. It's harder to give honesty than to receive it in the long run.
@scrab Well said. Though of course, conversely, it's easier to give advice than to receive it.
Still, I agree it's the way to go. Let's see if I can manage.
say "hmm, i wonder if she has any cute friends."
"I'm gay?"
@nomi That might raise some eyebrows amongst my friends.
Especially her fiance.
Who was one of my groomsmen.
At my wedding.
To a woman.
