i don't know if they are mice or rats - when i am trying to be calm about it they are mice, when it's 4:30 AM and i hear *rustlerustlerustle* they're rats. big hairy rats.

rodents in kitchen + kitchen and living room really same big room + sleep in living room + sleep on floor = Too Creeped Out To Sleep.

i bought a mousetrap but i don't think i have any suitable bait and the whole idea is pretty horrific anyway. plus somehow i will end up triggering it with my toe, i am certain.

you must obtain a feline friend. although, entrails and teeth/tail on the kitchen floor is kinda creepy too.

When this happened at my house, I figured I was lucky that I had rodents in my floorboards as opposed to gerbils in my rectum.

Think of it that way, and you'll feel better.

Okay but seriously, they're more scared of you than you are of them. Seriously. Have you ever seen one? Yeah, if you have, it was scurrying past you, quick as lightning. That's because human beings are scary to little rodents.

The point is that when you're sleeping, they won't come up to you. Moreover, mice generally have horrible vision. They crawl along walls because otherwise, they lose their way. If you sleep in the middle of a room, they're even LESS likely to approach you.

@minx - yeah i have been thinking about getting a mouser. but i've done that "hmm what's this squishy thing i just stepped in? Oh." thing before with cats. so lovely.

@Tive - that's part of the problem, really, i'm right near the walls on three sides (small place). i have been trying to be more frightening, though. works on people well enough.

What should go here?
