because there are two tonsils

what most people think are the tonsils (little hangy thing in the back of your throat) is actually the uvula, a muscle flap meant to properly guide food down your throat

your tonsils are actually a pair of glands close to the uvula that are there to prevent infection in the throat and respiratory system.

you also have lingual tonsils (connected to your tongue) and your adenoids. all might be infected.

There are two tonsils, but as I understand it there's only one adenoid.

If you have two adenoids, maybe you should remove the other one. :-) Avoid the 'noids!
