I was riding south on Spaulding Avenue towards my alley and there were some cops patting some people down on the hood of their car, so I got off my bike because they were dominating the road.
Suddenly, some dude came out of an alley further down the street and fired twice. Definitely completely missed, because I didn't hear the cars getting hit, but pretty much everyone ran at that point. I seriously had no clue what to do, so I ducked behind a truck until the police took off after them.
A little shook up, but nothing late dinner can't fix.
Just so you know: cars/trucks/vans/etc. don't stop bullets, especially newer plastic ones. A metal car will stop a .22 round, usually, but anything higher will still generally cut right through.
Nope. Best thing to do is to find something thicker and more solid--concrete and the like--for cover or move away from the shooter in unpredictable zig-zag motions. It's harder to hit a moving target, and most people shooting guns have no idea how to actually use them, so usually just getting away quickly is your best bet.
Whew! I'm glad you're okay, man. And if you DO have to take cover behind a car, you're generally pretty safe on the other side of slightly behind the front wheel (for front- or front/midship-engined car %u2013 the engine/transmission/etc. have more stopping power than essentially anywhere else on the car. And don't worry about them shooting the gas tank... it's near impossible to actually cause an enormous explosion by shooting the tank like they do in movies
(and for the record, Celisse was NOWHERE NEAR this concerned when I told her I almost got shot a couple of years ago, so it may truly be love)
