So I'm thinking about going to sxsw this year, but I don't really know how it works. Basically, a platinum badge is expensive as fudge, so I need to know if it is worth it. I don't even know how people go to film festivals on their own dime.
What all are you wanting to go to? I live here and always get a wristband, but it's hard to get a wristband as an out-of-towner. There are TONS of free day parties that you don't need anything for, and if you plan things the right way, you can get in to see almost all the bands you'd want to that way. I still sort of like having the wristband so that I can see more stuff... but it's not totally necessary.
ANNNNNNNND... have you figured out lodging? That's probably where you want to spend more of your money.
i'm going, for the film stuff. probably the first friday thru wed., though i might stay til thursday b/c i think St. pat's is Wednesday and i had the most amazing time there for St Patrick's day last year
Well I want to go for the film stuff. There are a lot of screenings and workshops that I want to go to. Plus the general networking or whatever. As for music, I don't even really know who is playing. I just want to go hang out and have fun.
I'm staying at my mom's in Georgetown. I have to go to tend to some work on the ranch (ITT: MY HUMBLE ROOTS) so I figured I'd wait until sxsw time to take care of it. What I usually do whenever I'm back in Texas is borrow the car, drive to Austin, stash it somewhere, and then take the bus to 6th street or wherever.
