My dad accidentally threw it over his shoulder at the hoover dam. Apparently if you hold it shut, it still works, but I like the excuse to get a new camera.
the working in low light is a matter of aperture which is on the lens. if you're using a canon or nikon 35mm, it'd probably be worth getting a 50/1.2 or 50/1.4 lens.
oh, well my sony lumix under $100 is adequate. it's not as good as a basic $300 setup in a dslr but for something that's super portable and records up to 10 mins of hdv at a time it's good. I use it to document my work.
My Casio Exilim has been treating me pretty well and it's probably come down in price since I got it three years ago. It's survived drops and bars and even me neglecting to plug it in right-came back like a champ.
if you've got the bucks, i'm told the best point-and-shoot right now is the canon S90. supposed to be much better than all others for low light and amazing for general shots. but, sadly, around $400, i think.
@blue - thats pretty much the same as the g11. i havent heard much about the s90, but i do know that canon's higher end point and shoots are pretty fantastic.

*tracking because I also need a new camera!*
i LOVE the canon g11. super nice.
its basically a point and shoot that has almost all of the options of an slr.

i think she's looking for a Point and Shoot digi, not a film slr.

lumix are very good as well. i've heard great things
the problem with the g11 is only the price, for not too much more you could get a basic dslr set up.

I, like every one of my other friends, has a Canon PowerShot Elph. I like it bunches, though it's not particularly great in low light.
