The commentors on the site are driving me fucking insane. I know i should stop reading them. But JESUS CHRIST.
Look, the dude went to jail and did his sentenced time, so he can play football and whatnot fine. BUT OWNING A DOG? no. never. he's already lost that privaledge because he's a scumbag.
I think he's a scumbag. Pure and simple. Does he deserve to play football? I dont know, but he served his sentence and he should be able to work where they will hire him, so that's ok I guess. But arguing he should be able to have a dog b/c hunters go out and kill animals every day is COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.
That would be the most ill-advised sports decision of the year, and that's saying something considering LeBron murdered the entire city of Cleveland on live TV.
I mean, he's an amazing athelete, I wont take that away from him. And he seems like he's doing all the right things to make ammends, but it doesn't change what he did.
i mean he's saying the right things to try and garner sympathy and taking responsibility for his actions or whatever, saying how tough it is to explain to his daughters they cant have a dog because of his actions, etc. etc.
but TOUGH SHIT DUDE, you should have thought of that before you brutally strangled, electrocuted, and drowned dogs.
well from what i can tell in the article part of his sentence was that he's never allowed to own a dog again. and he is working with the aspca so i doubt finding a dog is the real problem. i think he's trying to plead his case publicly and have that part of his sentence relaxed or removed.
I am all for redemption stories, but to me this is not a whole lot different from someone who killed a bunch of children saying "Gee, I'd really like to swing by the orphanage on the way home." Honestly, what does he think the reaction is going to be?
(Am I an oversensitive animal lover? Yep. Any plans to change that? Nope.)
@-j. - the redemption for me though is that he gets to make MILLIONS OF DOLLARS playing in the NFL. he did his time, seems remorseful-ish, and is doing the right things on that front.
owning a dog however just seems like something he should never be able to do.
@Skanko: we are agreeing :) If he's done his time and now gives support and money to the ASPCA and is genuinely sorry for what he did, then there really isn't a whole lot more we can ask of him in that respect. He can go back to his life and I don't honestly care what he does for a living or how much he makes doing it.
That said, if he were anyone else, he wouldn't be allowed to ever own a dog again (at least according to the laws up here in BC). He not only crossed a line of trust and compassion, he obliterated it...if he wants to support animals with his time and money, I'm glad to hear it! But he should not be allowed to own a dog ever again.
@-j. - Totally agree. I dont really know how genuinely sorry he is, but i can only go by what he says, and he (or whoever is telling him what to say) is saying all the right things. and i feel bad for his kids that they can't have a dog, but that's the price they have to pay for their fathers disgusting behavior.
@Skanko: I should add to my statements though: while he has "done his time", I do wish that the punishments in these cases were much stricter. But that's the system's fault, not Vick's.

michael vick, do not make me go over there and slap you.
I hate that guy so much. SO MUCH. More than OJ even. More than O.J.

heh i was going to bring up the LeBron thing. I just some athletes have 0 idea of how to build a public image.

I'm sure he'll find some breeder willing to sell to him. No shelter would let him adopt though.

Dogs make very excellent pets. It's not a weird thing. If he wanted a pet snake or something that would be weird - and newsworthy.
i didnt think it was weird, i just agree with the judge that he shouldn't be allowed one.
Yeah really there's nothing weird about wanting a dog, but absolutely not appropriate when you have been know to, say... kill them.
with your bare hands even.
Yeah, I mean, no matter how long you are in jail or go to therapy etc. you are still susceptible of falling into old habits. We all are.
Michael Vick doesn't deserve a dog because he made the New York Giants look like idiots
yesterday was like the voldemort of football games. i will now refer to it as the game as "the game which must not be mentioned"
whoops. i should have proofread that. oh well you get the point.
that's just stupid.
I'd stay the fuck away from dogs if I were him.
too bad there's not cruelty to animals registry
