Tagline continuation: "....to do a quarter of the work"
Seriously. My new boss is LAME. We actually got hired around the same time last year (June 2007), but since then, she's gotten promoted 3 times, despite the fact that everyone who works at my company totally dislikes her.
She was responsible for losing lots and lots of $ for the company, but for some stupid reason the executive team STILL decided to give her raises and promotions.
The part that hurts the most? I am the HR Manager at my company, and I was totally against any of her raises and promotions from the very beginning. Proof that I'm totally on the mark? Her super shitty performance reviews (which I keep track of) plus all the complaints I've received from the employees (which I also document). I was very vocal about NOT promoting her any further, and guess what....they make her my fucking boss instead.
Yeah, that seems to be what happened at my company. This woman was a project manager, so all the designers she managed would have to deal with her stupidity all day long. But she kept begging my boss and pestering her for a director-role, and they thought by making her the associate director of all the project managers (a lesser title), she'd finally shut up. But no, it wasn't enough. They decided to make her MY BOSS instead (Director of Operations), which surpised everyone. I mean, it's been a little embarassing for me too. When the announcement was made to the company, a bunch of employees approached me and asked why I wasn't offered the promotion. This woman doesn't even know what I do for a living! Seriously....for the past couple of weeks I've been training her, yet I make half the salary. VERY ANNOYING.
Yes, already looking at other design firms...BUT...big problem...the design world is small. And this is the field I want to continue to work in. Once I start looking, people are going to start pinging the executives in my company, trying to dig up info about me. I'm not planning on telling anyone at my company that I'm looking, but they'll find out eventually. And it will be very, very bad.
They have a history of forcing people to "work" their last two weeks at home, with no laptop. They're really paranoid about employees taking company assets with them, so they kind of do this weird, dishonorable discharge kind of thing. Again, as the HR Manager, I've been totally against this and have voiced my opinion, but they don't listen.
Sometimes I feel like calling the Department of Labor on them. But then I would be the one to get audited...

God hates me. I swear.
Mmmm...Ding Dongs.
Also, she's sleeping with the big boss.
Yeah...I wondered who she was blowing in the company to be able to get so far. :(
See, I fire the employees that I sleep with.
I do too! :P
some companies are fucked like that
i used to work for a company that, if someone was a trouble maker, they'd get promoted out of where they were.
It was good because you get rid of them, but someone else then has the same problem.

Hire me and I'll do it.

I'm guessing you're talking about graphic design and not fashion.
The fashion design industry is a lot worse.
@Carlo: Christ, is it?
Yeah, graphic & interaction design.
Yeah, I used to do that. Mostly textiles, but did accessories as well.
@Carlo: do they do regular, undeserved promotions and raises in fashion like they do in my world?
Sorry, still bitter.
On another note...I just popped over to your old "Stuff White People Like" convo and I wanted to add this: farmers markets and girls with bangs. ;)
@belle- the answer is yes.
Also it's extremely sexist.
oh I have so much to look forward to.
Yes. Yes they do.
