Aw, mixtapes for girlfriend. SO SWEET.

It would be sweeter if 90% of the songs I was interested in including didn't turn out to be about either a) breaking up with someone, or b) having broken up with someone at some point in the past.

Or. alternately, are THIS Branwell mixtape staple: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AkXC5m8ueA

After I weed out all the songs about not liking people, and the songs about being way more serious about a relationship than is at all appropriate for the situation, and the songs where the lyrics are impossible to make out (but what if SHE can, and they're actually about something problematic) --

AND the songs that are specifically about "hey, I've dated you for a couple months now, I like you a lot, etc.", which are just TOO on the nose, like that's lame, like am I suggesting I am SINGING these songs to her or something? --

I am left with:

-- Songs without lyrics. (I don't like most of these.)
-- Songs which aren't about love and dating and so forth in the first place. (These can be cool... I'll admit I don't listen to a lot of them.)
-- Songs about space manatees. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3vsT1POJrQ )

...oh, gosh. Is that girl DATING that space manatee? I may not be able to put together a whole album!

sharpie over the label to the dumb and dumber soundtrack and act like you burned it specifically for her and your choice of songs has nothing to do with any jim carrey/jeff daniels movie?

yea- i make mix tapes for my friends as xmas and bday presents, and it is just known that they are fucked-up and inappropriate.

they all give off the idea that i either want to commit suicide, sleep with them, that i hate everyone, or that i have some sort of stage 4 drinking problem.

not-topic related at all, but i screamed "BRANWELL" last night during that one shot!! very exciting!

uh, on community. forgot that important piece of info.

I think it's okay to put weird songs on a mixtape, so long as the intention's clean. For example, when you give it to her, say something like "these are songs I really like and thought you'd like, too, and some of them might be kind of weird."

i put the william shatner version of common people on a mixtape i made for my gf 'cos she's a HUGE star trek/shatner fan

@the way i get by Why did no one tell me there's a William Shatner version of Common People?

Mixtape etiquette really is kind of nervewracking.

TROOF, seriously i stress so much when i make a mix tape

Yep. And I didn't even mention "what if she already knows this band? What if she already knows AND HATES this band?"

And the only tangentially related "is she judging me for having forgotten all those Decemberists lyrics?" It's not relevant, but I think about it...

What should go here?
