the small child upstairs from us likes to play Wii Shotput! all night or some other similar game that uses anvils. and his dad likes to start hammering the FLOOR at 8am on a Saturday morning. There isn't much you can do. after about 6 months of missing sleep EVERY night my roommate called the police to ask if there was something he could do, since the guy isnt friendly and wouldn't be accommodating to a request if we asked him. They said not really but they stopped by anyway and told them to keep the noise down people in adjacent apartments had complained, etc etc and it has been MUCH better for about a year since then. still happens, but not as loud and WAY less frequently.
I haven't had a full night's sleep since June or so. I actually called out of work today because I was so out of it from lack of sleep. I've mentioned the level of noise a handful of times and I know it all boils down to the fact that they're college students with the attention spans of gnats. Oh - they have 3 dogs, too. I'm trying to avoid calling the police as they have a penchant for handing out noise violations and giving the maximum penalty of $3500 per person. I know I want a good night's sleep, but I don't want to see them fined $14,000 for it.
it is 4 college girls. now, normally, i have an immense tolerance for pretty much anything, especially when the people in question are cute girls, but if they're going to keep me awake, they should be putting out.
When should I expect you guys to come by and retrieve them? I could really use a good night's sleep.
Kids weigh much less, but are amazingly harder on their feet than any adult. The dogs are annoying, too. I live under an apt with hardwood floors, and a labradoodle dropping his "kong," repeatedly. THUD thud ud ud ud. Then, he sits down on the floor and chews his rawhide. GRINDGRINDGRIND GRINDGRIND GRIND
I did have noisy neighbours though. One set would fight a lot, there was a lot of yelling before they moved out and a quiet Japanese couple moved in. The neighbours on the other side had loud sex, and it was usually the guy making all the noise.
@nomi: all three of their dogs have a habit of waking up at about 0330 to run around the apartment. then they fight. then they go back to sleep by 0400. i'm ready to start putting tranquilizers in the dog food.
@DFG: I could care less about noisy. What I care about is noisy at hours that don't make any sense. If they wanted to scream and run around at 2200, I would be fine with that. It's the post midnight stuff that gets to me.
@angus: i'm not sure when they sleep, but you're right. whenever that is would be a perfect time for math metal, or perhaps some progressive death metal.
I recommend Einstuerzende Neubauten for these occasions. It has worked for me in the past. 60 seconds of something early from their oeuvre will shut them the fuck up.
I'm ready to either buy them rugs or staple their feet to the ground so they can't move.
Anyone who has suggestions on how to deal with this in a reasonably non-aggressive way should tell me. I want to go up there and throttle people.

its 4 college girls?
just send them over to my place instead.
the latter sounds hot!
@twigby - i will send some of them up to you, as sort of an american-canadian good will program.

I'm so happy I only had to live under someone else once. The high heels were annoying every so often, but that's all I head really coming from above.

@rearden - just give them my address and tell them to show up soon, i've got nothing to do .
@skanko - clearly they're not good at listening to me, so you'll have to come get them yourself.

@jonathan - DAMNIT FINE. but they better be cool, i hate driving to new brunswick for nothing.
They're cute. Believe me. Besides, if you take them off of my hands, I would be incredibly grateful. (and i'm a good person to owe you a favor)
@readensteel: hey old friend! sorry you haven't been getting enough shuteye. i hope some good nights full of lots of sleep come to you real real soon.
p.s. i think i still need to mail you sugar skulls. remember those! i have yours on my desk!
@reardensteel - very true. ok i'm in. let them know i'm coming for them.
So when do they sleep? That might be a good time for some math metal.

@eva: thank you for the well wishes.
i do indeed remember the sugar skulls. whenever you get to them, that's fine. i'm not going anywhere anytime soon. :)
i've actually been thinking of waiting until they're in the middle of finals and bringing my drums back home to practice.

You might be able to convince them that some thick rugs would be cheaper than a noise complaint.
that's the route i'm going for, right now.
