elevator machine room.

Most unusual that I've been to is probably Saipan:

A tiny island in the Pacific, fairly near the equator. (And with a huge red arrow pointing at it.) It's technically American territory, so there are a lot of Yank ex-pats there. (Many stores have three unofficial prices on their goods: one for locals, one for whitey, and one for Japanese tourists.) The beaches are wonderful, the speed of life is glacial, and it has a stunning grotto in which to dive.

Go to the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia. One of my fav places

P, I live 10 blocks from the Mutter museum

J, That sounds amazing. I'm thinking on this continent, keeping all my Asian travel plans about 3 years from now.

The South! I drove through Alabama a few years back and the road was littered with weird little roadside curiosities -- recreations of biblical cities and contenders for the title of "world's largest chair" and whatnot.

@hey_oblomov: Georgia too! well not all of Georgia.

Cabazon California. The Dinosaurs that were in Pee Wee's big adventure are there. You can go inside of them too.

@Matthew... aaaaahhhhh!! You lucky dog!!!! Hmmm, it's hard to beat Mutter for weirdness, but I'd guess that there are places in New Orleans that can compare with respect to creepy.

one of the weirdest places I've been to isn't really a place you can visit because they blocked it off, but it's called "Backwards Hill" and there are three places like it(I think 3, maybe just 2), and it's one of those places where you can take your car and it will roll up hill. it's supposedly one of those optical illusions, like The Angle Inn type places they have in amusement parks (which I LOVE and would love to be the person who works it). lemme see if I can find an article about it. (back in the 80's they tore up the road and then chained it off because they were sick of people roll up all day and night in a area located on a blind curve.

oh wait, it's called Gravity Hill

here's an article that has apparently archived all of them:
http://userpages.umbc.edu/~frizzell/gravhills.html

google Gravity Hill Nashville for more fun and excitement.

(I personally have rolled up the hill in a car and rolled a glass bottle up the hill more times than I can count. I think I was like 3 the first time I did it b/c my dad loved it, and when friends/fam would come visit, we'd always go roll up the hill because WHAT ELSE ARE YOU GOING TO DO IN MIDDLE TN besides drink corn likker)

crap there are so many. I need to investigate the SoCal sites

bishop's castle in southern colorado.

swetsville zoo in fort collins.

carhenge in nebraska.

What should go here?
