Well, if you want to play Assassin's Creed, you want a 360 or a PS3. If you would also like to be able to watch blu ray movies, you should go with a PS3. Other than that, I'm not sure if there is much of a difference between the two. Where's twigby or paully. :D
I've been leaning towards a PS3 anyways, but I may opt for the cheaper 360. I just don't know how they've been holding up in the battle of the consoles.
My exroomie had a Wii that I enjoyed, but there are many games that I think would be better if played on the other 2.
I love my 360. I would say it holds up pretty well. I originally got the one (I don't think it's made anymore) with a 20 GB hard-drive, which got filled up pretty quickly. I got a 120 GB hd for christmas this year, so that's helping quite a bit.
The PS3 has better exclusives coming out this year, but up until now the X Box has had the better exclusives
mind you, in terms of exclusives, neither has really gotten THAT huge of an advantage. IMO The PS3 and the Xbox 360 are pretty much the same system for most people.
Really, it comes down to a desire to play online vs. a desire to watch blu-ray movies. While online play is getting better on the PS3, it's nowhere near as seamless, integrated, or mostly flawless as it is on the 360 (IMO). If you want blu-ray, obviously the PS3 is your choice.
Another thing to take into account is the controller. After using the Xbox/360 controller for so long, I don't like either the size or the layout of the Dual Shock controller. Just something to think about.
@centro that might have held true (MIGHT) like at the end of the 90's but now, fuck, the PC gaming market is dead. While I PREFER to play games like Dragon Age and Moder Warfare on PC if I didn't have the option it'd be totally fine playing them on consoles. What's really a PC exclusive now anyways? Just Blizzard IPs and MMORPGs. You can make the case that, for certain games, things control better on the PC but the counter argument could be made for consoles as well
The real drawback for gaming on a PC these days that it's getting to the point where you'll need a kilowatt power supply if you want to be able to support the latest best video card and any game that takes full advantage of DirectX 10 physics and graphics capabilities. Most people don't really enjoy the prospect of enormous spikes on their hydro bill just from playing a game for a few hours a day.
What kind of gaming are you looking to do?
I dunno. I play all kinds of stuff.
I think I want to try my hand at Assassin's Creed.
But I will play almost anything....excepts sports games. Those are just not for me.

I'm really trying to figure out a way to ease myself back into gaming.

I think this still holds true:

360 Elite. Assassins Creed 2.
Do it. Don't look back.
(entirely IMO of course)
