I have been pretty dissapointed with movies I've been watching lately.

Movie buffs, help me out please please.

Nothing is too obscure for me to find, I just have no idea what to look for.

Delicatessen is the last movie I saw and liked. Well, that and the Three Amigos, but come on.

What kind of movies do you like?

um....yeah, like CT said.

i've got plenty to recommend, but it depends on what you're in the mood for, and what your tastes generally lean toward.

also, I need to see Delicatessen again - loved it the first time i saw it.

and Three Amigos is a personal favorite; me and my two best friends in H.S. were dubbed the Three Amigos (I was Ned Nederlander)

I usually like arty movies and lighthearted comedies but don't have much of a stomach for excess profanity and gore.

And by excess gore I mean really pointlessly excessive blood squirting in a way that is not pivotal to plot development. Like Pan's Labyrinth and Mongol.

Try the French movie Playtime. It's this really weird visual poetry/slapstick comedy, but totally gorgeous. Whimsical and pretty.

The trailer doesn't really get the feel across because it cuts too quickly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVTfUe8jM3o

Here's a clip that gets the idea across better. The joke is that modern life is a ridiculous maze. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvUMZH0ns_8

i'm assuming you've seen BRICK? seems like you might dig that...

How about MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO (early Gus Van Sant and, besides GOOD WILL HUNTING, my favorite of his movies)?

CQ, w/Jeremy Davies (very quirky/odd, romantic dramedy sci-fi fantasy)

BENNY AND JOON (a bit too cutesy at times, but i always enjoyed it - and, hey, Depp!)

THE DAYTRIPPERS (ensemble indie comedy w/Parker Posey; from the guy who would go on to direct Superbad)

MILLIONS (kids films from the always-imaginative Danny Boyle)

THE LOOKOUT (crime thriller, but character based over guns/violence - Joseph Gordon Levitt, Isla Fisher...i dug it a lot)

QUIET CITY (no-name, super-low budget 2-characters-meet-and-fall-in-love-in-the-city movie; i've seen it like five times...very emo, but i like that it feels awkward and honest)

THE PUFFY CHAIR (made in a similar vein to QUIET CITY, though a little more polished - low-key relationship/road movie...the guys who did this just did BAGHEAD, which is funny and scary and really great)

there's a few to get ya started...

What should go here?
