yeah i get it. awesome to lose weight and become healthy. more power to them. but seriously, no more shows about losing weight. its silly.

why do we always over-exagerate such accomplishments. people should want to be healthy without needing a show/prizes.

i want a show to celebrate quitting smoking then. if we insist on having silly shows like The Biggest Loser.

I like The Biggest Loser, but I do agree it's pretty silly in theory.

Then I think about how much it motivates other people to get healthy, such as myself and members of my family. I know people should want to take care of themselves without some outrageous incentive, but the reality is that people who have spent their entire lives with these unhealthy habits don't tend to have healthy thoughts or "go-get-em" attitudes regarding their body image. Sometimes it takes something out of the ordinary to push them in the right direction.

And to be fair, even though the contestants are congratulated on their short-term goals, the underlying message is always about lifestyle change. Being on the show is just the start. Keeping the weight off and maintaining better habits is the real goal of the program. But it's TV, so they focus on a lot of the games, prizes, bells, & whistles to keep it somewhat entertaining. Otherwise the show would be 100x more depressing than it sometimes is already.

"people should want to be healthy without needing a show/prizes."

Do you REALLY think people on this show have no desire to lose weight and be healthier?

I'm most offended by shows promoting weight loss through plastic surgery. It seems so Running Man, to put something so unethical and dangerous on television, and not only that but have contests for it too. If there was ever a way to tell people a horrible thing like "You're not beautiful, and you never really will be", this would be the most irresponsible way to do it.

If they had a desire to lose weight, then why do they need to be on that show. you know they audition right?

and i have seen a few of them gain the weight back.

Because if anything is going to hold people to be accountable to reach a goal, being on national television might? If I were needing to lose a ton of weight, going on tv would be just about the LAST thing I would want.

I'm sure there are people who just want fame and money too but I honestly could not tell you the name of one person who has been on that show.

me either. seems so unnecessary.

What should go here?
