How do you pronounce Sufjan Steven's first name?

I asked this question in Nikki's last post but I guess it was old so no one answered. I want to know what everyone thinks, though. There are four pronunciations that I've heard: (I'm not an expert on phonetics so bear with me)

A: Suf-jon (pretty much how it looks) Source: My sociology professor and other people I know. Most likely due to ignorance?

B: Soof-yon    Source: Snow Patrol's "Hands Open"

C: Soo-yon     Source: Switchfoot making mention during a concert

D: Soof-yarn   Source: Matt Potato

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

I say it like B, I guess. Except with less of a short O sound and more of a, like, AHHHH sound.

I don't know how reliable that is because I just put my first and last names in (that are commonly mispronounced) and I got two wrong pronunciations.

@daisy - coincidentally the "die hard fans" agree that it's soof-yawn/yon.

I'm sure if I put in my name they'd fuck it up - but we're not famous people ;).

soof-yarn

Thanks for the replies. I was kind of leaning toward B anyway.

And Matt, I never would have guessed there was an r in there. To be thorough, I'll add that pronunciation in there.

Hmmm ... maybe it's more of a Soof-yaan. The r isn't so pronounced in my head.

I think that's what I meant with the Soof-yon. Like I said I'm a phonetics idiot. I'll keep the fourth option in there for kicks.

I saw a band one time with a drummer who plays for Sufjan and they said Soof-yahn. But my brother and I decided looooong ago that we would be obstinate and forever refer to him as Suf-jan. Just to spite pricks who love to correct such ass-hattery.

What should go here?
