It helps to remember that everyone else in the room is going to be going through the same thing, and you're not alone. And that it's probably hard for the boss to tell bad news.
my meeting strategy: take a pad of paper, write things down so it looks like you're attentively taking notes. don't let anyone actually see that you're writing gibberish and or death threats
These meetings usually don't bode well. Taking an early lunch break to get outside time.

Then again, maybe it's cake. IT COULD BE CAKE.
In your company, specifically, I wonder exactly what it is they have left to take away.
@Moose: It's not gonna be cake. Not on a meeting called same day.
@CM: Yeah, that's my state of mind unfortunately. I'm running numbers on bills assuming half pay, and that scares me. Also taking some deep breaths.
Of course it was bad news. 20 hours per week average through the rest of the summer. We still have benefits, at least.
Zhen dao mei. Wo de ma he ta de feng kuang de wai sheng dou.

Dude, I think it might be time to look for a part-time job doing pretty much anything.
@eva: Thanks for the support and good opinion. I'm doing my best.
@Monkey: Damn straight. I'm going to have to talk to my other pt job and see if they can provide more hours for now.

PS are you missing a pair of sunglasses?
@Machined: Not missing sunglasses. I do follow that strategy in bad meetings, it allows me to avoid eye contact when I feel like freaking out.
In related go-getter news I just lined up an hour or so of consulting work pertaining to the software I administer at work. Yay little gigs!
