ylaaaahhhhhh So I really never watch hockey at all but enough people recommended this that I'm working through it (3 parts!) but all the stories about fights and drugs make me so squeamish http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/06/sports/hockey/derek-boogaard-a-brain-going-bad.html?pagewanted=all
I've been following the whole thing about "goons" and "enforcers" and the study of their health during and after the game. It's really fascinating stuff and I've definitely changed opinions on how I felt about things in the game.
The article gets less gruesome, but it certainly doesn't get any less sad. I suppose there's a big silver lining if cases like this mean others are saved in future, but still...it all seems so stupid.
See, it didn't even feel less gruesome because like..brain damage? Still gruesome. Anyway, surprising things, coming from a person not into hockey.
- had no idea they enlisted players who can barely even score goals, but can fight - why are team doctors prescribing so many painkillers to someone who's been in and out of rehab? - the part about only wanting to play hockey and having no other ideas of what to do is frightening to a teacher

All I can is is that this article were a movie or a tv show I would be covering my eyes at this point. (TOTAL WIMP)
THAT DIDN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE BECAUSE I AM SO WIGGED OUT!
