I need to get back in school ASAP. The real world is boring and I'm tired of waking up at 5am to go sit in an office. I really like dead people and all that, but with the economy in the shitter, there is NO work in that field. I don't know how long this recession will last and I have no idea what to do with my life now. It seems like the world kind of turned upside down since I was in college. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm young and have no parental figures in my life and I just need advice about grown-up stuff.
Well, I think that you don't necessarily need to go back to school, although it depends on your particular goals and anything.
I just can't stand the idea of going back to grades and punishment for unfinished homework, but that's just me. I would rather do a certificate program...
Right now I'm finishing a certificate program at New England Institute of Art and they botched it by canceling at least 5 or 6 classes.
We're going through make-up classes now and the whole thing cost something like $3,000. I would rather pay more for a certificate program and not to go through terrible organizational problems like that.
Their full program costs about $40,000 to $80,000 depending on type of degree and I suspect that if its any similar to a certificate program, then its definitely not worth it.
@el indio: no it wasn't full of fail. But the thing I wanted to major in might be now.
@val: I don't think there is a job I would be happier doing. I really love anthropology and if I can't realistically hope for a phD and finding work as a forensic anthropologist, I would really like to stay in the field of anthropology in some form. I guess I'm trying to figure out if I should concentrate on another area for my graduate degree where I might find work. Like cultural conservation or something.
@ brad & ajt: I WILL live in San Francisco some day. I've really believed that my whole life. I'm actually so sure of it, that I'm not afraid to take my time to make sure I can support myself once I'm there and not fail and move back to Phoenix broke, like so many other people in this city.
Okay, yes, I understand what you REALLY WANT to do. What I'm asking is this: Is there a job that you know exists out there that it is possible for you to attain? One that would make you happier than your current job?
Well, you could be more specific...
Do you want a completely new career or...?
:-p

im trying to remember...was PSU full of fail?
"punishment for unfinished homework"
no joke. school has a nice way of putting you back in the role of a child. even if you're 30
i vote you begin with a move to sf.
Besides, schools are expensive as hell.

$40,000 to $80,000 per year, that is.
And that school is not particularly well-known, from what I understand...
Okay, so, what is a job you think you'd be happier doing that might actually pay?
Sorry about rambling...
But I guess that sometimes your experience/actual examples of work that you did might be more important than diploma.
You can spend 5 years in school and still learn nothing, so I don't know...
I'm with Brad.
