Carrie
Paranormal Activity (seriously, so stupid)
The Exorcist (to this day I'm not sure why so many people are freaked out by this movie)

The first time I saw the Excorcist I was 16 and it scared the piss out of me.

Did you see Paranormal Activity in the theaters?

I like how you named the two horror movies I DO like (haven't seen paranormal activity)

The Blair Witch project. Seriously boring and no I don't find the last shot "disturbing."

The good majority of the 80's slasher fic stuff like Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. Unless we're talking about unintentional humor then yeah they're great. I'll admit I love the VR camp scene in Jason X for laughs.

Most of the torture porn like Saw and Hostel. Blame the internet for this.

Yeah, Saw was original and inventive at FIRST. they had a good concept, punch you in the face with something AWFUL in the first scene. Most of the rest of the move was not that bad, but it was like they kept holding their fist a few inches from your nose. You kept thinking they'd punch you again, it made it tense and scary and fun. the last couple of those movies were just boring.

Blair Witch was only good if you allowed yourself to believe it MAY be real, if you doubted it it was bad. same as Paranormal Activity. And I think BOTH of those movies have to be seen in theaters, its just a different vibe, in a room of 50-100 people in dark, loud theater with people screaming or jumping makes it much more fun and scary.

Yeah the exorcist MIGHT be the best horror movie ever in my opinion, or at least definitely top 5.

Ones I dont get -

Cannibal Holocaust - seriously? boring and not scary in the least, just weird at the end, and not the fun or entertaining kind of weird.

The Thing (original) - I mean i got it, it was kinda cool, but i saw it SO late in life and after i had already seen the xfiles episode that was essnetially a direct rip off of it, so it wasnt scary at all to me.

ill think of more im sure.

I've been meaning to give The Exorcist another chance.

And I did see Blair Witch opening night when people still werent 100% sure if it was real or marketing.

Ooh. I hated Cloverfield.

yeah i didnt even consider cloverfield a horror movie. just a monster movie with no real monster that makes you try to vomit by shaking the camera around.

I was coming in to say The Exorcist, too. I was 14 when I saw it and thought it was dumb.

Saw Paranormal Activity in the theater with my mom. She fell asleep.

Blair Witch did nothing but make me nauseous and, although I enjoyed Paranormal Activity, I REALLY don't think it was scary.

I have a place in my heart for all genres of horror, even gory 80's slasher, but I can not get on board with movies like Saw and Hostel (as Twigby referred to as torture porn). I absolutely can't stand it!

saw (all of them) and cloverfield, which made me barf because I got so dizzy.

the exorcist STILL scares the crap out of me, always and forever. probably because I grew up in a catholic/mexican family, and they told us it was real and often used scary shit like that to keep us in check. thanks, maria. I'm in my 30s and am still scared of la llorona (they told us she was local) and el cucuy (aka the boogeyman's mexican cousin).

I like the scary ones. I do not like the violent/gory ones. The "Saw/Hostel/Turistas" stuff, I can't even stand reading the spoilers, let alone trying to see the movie.

The Scream series didn't really do it for me either. And since it came up in the other thread, my position on "Silence of the Lambs" is already a matter of public record.

@WordNerd: I am still messed up by the "Father's Day" segment of "Creepshow", which I saw at a very young age. Perhaps that's why I don't like cake.

I like Scream but not as a horror movie, more like a nice exercise in playing with horror tropes. The sequels are terrible.

also LOL -J HATING SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

@TWIGBy: with regards to "Scream", I quite liked that they played with horror tropes. I didn't like that they then had the Jamie Kennedy guy telling you exactly what movies were being referenced and why. It's like the guy who tells you a clever joke and then spends the next ten minutes explaining to you why it's funny.

I didn't hate the first one (although you're right that the sequels are awful), I just didn't quite think it worked.

Human Centipede. It was just made for shock value, but the internet desensitized me with salsa snack and goatse and 1 priest 1 nun, so this was not shocking to me, it was just poorly written, and very dull.

Grudge 3. It sucked.

Blood Dolls

Puppet Master series (Like Freddy and Jason, it is great as a child, but boring once you grow up)

Fright Night Remake. The trailer alone filled me with rage and disgust. This is where I will embrace ignorance, and hate something I have not seen yet.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel. Just because it looks like a place just waiting to give someone a staph infection, doesn't make it scary.

Don't be afraid of the dark-

now i gotta look up 1 priest 1 nun....

1 for not getting the torture porn ones.

There's a lot of 'horror' movies that I get, i just think are dumb. Whatever that one about the girl's aborted sister trying to posses her is one of those.

I much prefer the monster and haunted house subgenres to a lot of what's been coming out lately.

@Bedazzler: There is a Grudge 3?? Why would that happen?

I'm pretty comfortable with saying, for the most part, that any #3 of a movie series is pretty terrible. The only exceptions, in my opinion, are The Exorcist, Poltergeist and Nightmare on Elm Street where 2 was worse than 3. With that being said, the third in all of those series were all pretty bad anyway, just not as bad.

@Chrome: I also prefer those subgenres, especially the paranormal.

@The Ferguson- I have no idea why there was a grudge 3. It is a different director, so that explains a lot of the suckage.

@Sonic Exam- 1 priest 1 nun involves germans eating shit. It is like 2 girls 1 cup, but you can HEAR the nasty as well as see the nasty.

I would agree with the Saw movies. I saw the first one and it wasn't my favorite.

I've never bothered to see the other torture porn movies.
