GPB was a great one - I bought the 2.0 soundtrack for all of the extra 80's awesome.
Also - while the final track was MUY cheesy (GNR should never have been allowed to cover the Rolling Stones), Interview with a Vampire was another great orchestral soundtrack. Seems like the gothy films usually have soundtracks I like.
@Jas: I loved the sound effects. Were they on the OST, or the 2.0? Anyway, I love putting iTunes on random, and hearing an occasional sword ZING! or axe ZUPZUPZUP appear in between two other tracks.
The Run Lola Run soundtrack was another good one, if you like techno. The final track, "What a Difference a Day Makes", by Billie Holiday, is a sweet and perfect ending.
soundtracks often had songs that were either cut from the movie, but the rights were paid for and everything, so they go ahead and include them (i had this happen to me on a movie recently), OR, back when music was profitable, they came up with soundtracks filled with "inspired by" music, mainly to cash in (i.e., TWILIGHT, or the multiple soundtracks for BRAVEHEART, TITANIC, etc.)
the weirdest one may have been the fact that they released three different soundtracks for HACKERS, a movie nobody saw (except its core audience, who would of course appreciate the music, as i did)
i just downloaded the expanded DARK KNIGHT score, because i'm "that guy". also: the Joker's signature music - that one lone held note - is so eerie and fantastic, one of the best uses of simple scoring i've heard in years. and there's a great cut on the expanded album, "You're Gonna Love Me" -- it's when the Joker crashes the party and begins asking for Harvey Dent....the part where he grabs Rachel by the face and all the sound but the one note drops out...amazing. and well worth 99cents.
oh, i'm also a big Carter Burwell fan; he did all/most of the Coen Brothers' movies. MILLER'S CROSSING is probably my favorite of their collaborations.
@flyingfishstick - not at all; i'd be happy to. anything else you're interested in, lemme know. i've got hundreds! always happy to meet a fellow score nerd.
Lost Highway is one of my favs.
I just rejected the Kinks (sorry, boys) for Jeff Beal's fantastic Carnivale soundtrack.
I do like me a nice orchestral soundtrack. I used to listen to the Crow waytoooften back in High School. Yeah, yeah, I was one of *those* kids.
There were many others throughout years...
Clerks soundtrack is pretty cool.
Then there's Gummo, some tracks off of Romeo + Juliett, some tracks off of Batman Forever.
The interesting thing about some soundtracks is that they include songs that were not featured in the movie itself - I'm wondering why...
My apologies - it was "Batman Forever", actually.
I think that soundtracks are usually 50/50 in terms of quality, because typically you have a mix of styles and genres.
"Batman and Robin", dammit.
*sigh*
Go.
I think the last soundtrack I actually bought was Kill Bill vol. 1.
High fidelity, gross pointe blank, empire records, reservoir dogs
Henry and June

@Aart: I don't know that one!
@Jas: I loved the sound effects. Were they on the OST, or the 2.0? Anyway, I love putting iTunes on random, and hearing an occasional sword ZING! or axe ZUPZUPZUP appear in between two other tracks.
@cocktails - those are all fantastic. i'd add pulp fiction that list as well.
@ffs - gnr's cover of sympathy for the devil is actually not bad. i mean its not STONES version, but it's enjoyable.
stickie: Have you ever seen the movie? Lots of Satie and other lovely music.
What about one band doing a whole soundtrack?
Piano Magic did a soundtrack to a movie called "Son De Mar" (which I never saw) and its really haunting sort of stuff.
@Skanko: WRONG. BLASPHEMY. Never say that ever again.
@Aart: No, I haven't. Should I add it to my Netflix?
Also, horrible soundtracks - while I love Toy Story, wassisface from the soundtrack, Randy Newman? No thank you. Not ever.
@skanko: i figured id stick with 1 of his flicks.
Also, Boondock Saints. Some great Celtic stuff, some decent rock, some cheesy shite from the director/author's band. Overall, a solid B.
stickie: Do you like Henry Miller or Anais Nin? If yes to either one, add it.
Even if you don't and like Paris and the 20s and 30s, add it.
@CMI & Skanko: The man really does a great job at digging through music and putting together something brilliant every time.
Also! Anything by Hans Zimmer is usually a good time.
One of the recent movies by Harmony Korine featured music by J. Spaceman and Sun City Girls.
I really want to hear this one.
The movie is called "Mister Lonely" and, again, I never saw this one...
I am sadly addicted to musical soundtracks because I like to pretend I'm Idina Menzel. </sad>
Ermmm... Who?
The Run Lola Run soundtrack was another good one, if you like techno. The final track, "What a Difference a Day Makes", by Billie Holiday, is a sweet and perfect ending.
i think the soundtrack to Amelie is terrific by itself
Idina Menzel.
Doh! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idina_Menzel
Solaris, Hana-Bi, Paris Texas for scores - Good Will Hunting and Magnolia for songs.
i thought i was the only soundtrack nerd on here!
THE VILLAGE is one of my favorites - i listen to it all the time when i read/write. SOLARIS and THIN RED LINE as well
in general:
Anything by Thomas Newman (especially SHAWSHANK or ROAD TO PERDITION)
Anything by Clint Mansell (especially THE FOUNTAIN)

The Fountain did have great music; would it destroy you ethically to send it to me? :D Please?
And Hackers- Razor of Love, unch unch unch. :D My sisters and I collectively owned all three. And the Mortal Kombat OST.
@flyingfishstick - not at all; i'd be happy to. anything else you're interested in, lemme know. i've got hundreds! always happy to meet a fellow score nerd.
Adventures of Baron Munchausen, really, the only thing worth listening to as far as quirky classical pieces go.
