oh, now it makes sense. turns out the whole thing is actually a christian propaganda piece! so they could probably only hire super christian cast and crew, which might explain why they didn't manage to find much talent.
also, at 85 minutes, it felt ridiculously padded. wow, i can't believe i watched the whole thing! train-wreck fascination. ordinarily i'm just a sucker for a half-decent apocalypse, but the most intense stuff we actually got to see was pretty much a mild snowstorm.
one fun part is where the "science guy" tells everyone about the alignment of the black hole at the center of the galaxy suddenly slowing down the earth's rotation. somebody at the table basically says, "but hasn't nasa shown conclusively that that's impossible?" and he replies, "i can't tell you how it works, but that's what our calculations say is happening!"
if i ever get around to seeing the more recent 2012 film, it's going to seem so good by comparison!
@Centropy: some of them, yes. the ones left behind decide it's gift to have the opportunity to spread the word on earth, now that their eyes have been opened. i think. i was pretty tuned out by the end.
I saw it on my Netflix Streaming on XBox Live, but it had a really low rating, so I didn't bother watching it.

(i should have been tipped off when several main characters kept saying, "oh my gosh!")
I recognize an Asylum picture when I see one.
Do they get raptured up at the end?
