i honor this holiday just a tad more than i do the wookie life day. in that i mean i'm going to listen to tad, mc chris, and pay the new "green" premium on my fucking trash bill. i already grow most of my food.
i seriously grow most of what i eat through the first few months of winter. and since a butcher cuts up the beef i raise for me to eat i guess that counts too.
and i guess now i HAVE to listen to mc chris and tad. thanks.
we're not earth haters, hell, bout 70% of my trash gets recycled. People will only take so much when you go on at them about good causes. after that they start to get a bit resentful and stuff.
i like earth. i'm not a hater. i''m just willing to bet i already have a smaller carbon footprint, recycle and compost more trash, and raise more of my own food than most people on here. my pessimism is just aimed at those those who think a day of turning off the lights=medals. (apologies if i'm speaking out of turn or if i'm not being spoken to)
It would be hypocritical for me to do that, when I do so many other wasteful things on a day to day basis: 1. I drink pellegrino water every few days - bottled, shipped from Italy 2. I drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day - that's ~280 to 420 liters of water per day 3. I eat meat once a day - one of the most enviormentally distructive food source 4. I also consume sushi once a week, esp. unagi - eel population is devestated by over fishing and a fraction of what it once was
So basically, I'm a horrible, irresponsible person - enviormentally speaking. I'm a sinner.
No, I get it. I think it's a bit silly myself, but I'm still going to do it.
And I'm not one to push something (anything) in someone's face. I was merely asking a question. I just don't understand the backlash of some of those responses.
i hadn't heard about this, but if i remember i will do it.
the backlash is standard hippiephobia. people get irrationally defensive when someone suggests they do something they don't immediately want to do, especially if they feel like they're being lectured to about things they think they already understand. it's like you have to immediately assume that any activist message is aimed at you alone for some reason. i don't think they're earth-haters (except you, MisterDarcy, you dirty sinner!), but they should consider that they're not the sole target audience of the movement.
i would put my carbon/waste footprint up against pretty much anyone on here, and yes, i will do this, and no, the campaign doesn't bother me in the slightest.
no I am plan on turning on all my lights to fight the hippies.
Before I go to bed, yes.
sure, why not.
me and the unlucky stuntman both, im gonna turn em on, and im gonna set fire to wildlife too!
isn't earth day in april???
yes, THIS IS EARTH HOUR

yeah I need to order seeds and get some seedlings going.
even if I might move before summer rolls around.
