Holy Hell ain't logged in in a long time. Been teaching.
Ever have one of those cathartic workouts. You know, the ones where you listen to your tunes of choice and work yourself silly, just allowing the thoughts you'd normally suppress to bubble up to the surface. I had one of those workouts today. And I'll probably fail to sleep tonight.
Some choice quotes from my training session today...
Mind you, we're all training to be teachers (ESL and Spanish in this particular class) and the instructors are seasoned educators:
1. It's like, you know, whatever.
2. We covered the geographics of Mexico.
3. We studied the directionalities: North, South, East West.
4. Call their parents and be all like, your kid is good.
5. You have 1 student who is off task, and 22 that's doing what they need to be doing.
Not to mention the banner in the hallway: LIEWJFOIJWE High School: An optional school focusing on Business, Finance, and College Preparatory.
I almost went INSANE.

Unpacking the male privilege
I'm writing an essay that includes "unpacking" the male privilege a la http://seamonkey.ed.asu.edu/~mcisaac/emc598ge/Unpacking.html
So far I've got:
As a man...
- I can feel reasonably safe traveling
on my own.
- I am reasonably sure that I won't
ever be sexually harassed.
- I can go out at night without fear of
being taken advantage of.
- I can take my top off in public
without being thought obscene.
- Most world leaders are of my gender.
- I usually don't need to fear being
physically overpowered by a member of the other gender.
- Most heroes in popular entertainment
are of my gender.
Any more ideas for me?
